The lemon tetra is a species of tropical freshwater fish which originates from South America, belonging to the family Characidae. It is a small tetra growing to 5 cm in length. The species is a long established favourite aquarium fish, being introduced to the aquarium in 1932
Like most tetras, the Lemon is a sociable species that does well in a community setup with other friendly fish. In nature, Lemon tetras are found in huge shoals of many thousands of individuals, and they should, therefore, be kept in small schools of at least six to be happy in captivity.
