Bumblebee Platy
The Bumblebee Platy, Xiphophorus maculatus, is a species of freshwater fish (live-bearer) that is closely related to the green swordtail (X. helleri). They make a great addition to a community tank to add a unique splash of black and light yellow like its namesake (Bumblebee).
Males and females can be distinguished in a few ways, the main being the presence of a gonopodium (stick shaped reproductive organ), males will also have a slightly pointed caudal fin.
The Bumblebee Platy can reach a max length of around 3.5 inches.
We feed our fish a mix of frozen, live and prepared foods including daphnia, baby brine and cyclops. We also supplement their diet with a mix of Northfin Veggie and Community.
